Frequently asked questions
How do I add a news source?
Open Sources, tap “Add a source” and paste a news site address or RSS/Atom feed URL. ExtraExtra looks for a feed and lets you preview it before adding it. Some sites do not offer compatible feeds.
What are Spaces?
Spaces are groups of sources. Start with World, Tech and Local, or tap the + chip to create your own. Long-press a Space chip to edit it.
How are top stories chosen?
ExtraExtra groups related articles and prioritises stories covered by multiple outlets, with more recent coverage carrying more weight. Where there are fewer shared stories, recent articles with images can fill the carousel.
Can I read articles offline?
Save an article to cache its full text when extraction succeeds. You can then open it from Saved without a connection. Some publishers block extraction, so full offline text may not be available for every article.
Why does an article show only a summary?
Some publishers block article extraction. When this happens, use the “Read on” button to open the publisher’s website. ExtraExtra does not bypass paywalls.
How do I add a home-screen widget?
In Sources, find Home screen widgets and tap Add beside Headlines or Top story. You can also long-press your Android home screen, open Widgets and choose ExtraExtra. Available options depend on your launcher.
A feed is not loading. What should I do?
Check your connection and pull down on Headlines to refresh. If a single source keeps failing, its feed may be temporarily unavailable or may have moved. For a source you added, check its feed address or remove and add it again.
Do I need an account?
No. Your sources, Spaces, reading history and saved articles stay on your phone. There is no account or cloud sync. Clearing app storage or uninstalling removes the app’s local data.
Is there an iPhone version?
This website focuses on the Android app. No iPhone release is announced here.
